Last year I was a little behind on Halloween cocktails. I had a lot of ideas but ran out of time and only ended up making the Starburst infused vodka. This year, I actually planned ahead and was able to follow through on some of my ideas. One was this candy corn infused vodka.
Candy corn is available all year long. But it seems to be really popular around Halloween time. I read on TLC Cooking that 35 million pounds of it is produced in a year. That’s a lot of freaking kernels. The traditional colors are white, orange and yellow but it can also come in other colors depending on the time of year.
And did you know that October 30th is National Candy Corn Day? I knew we had a lot of crazy national days but I had no idea there was one for candy corn. And it’s the day before Halloween. So you can load up on candy corn two days in a row with no guilt. You are just celebrating two special days, right?
What I found interesting about making this candy corn infused vodka was that the candy started dissolving immediately. After about 4 hours it was all dissolved with just a little bit of candy wax at the bottom of the jar. I thought it would take at least a day to infuse. I poured the vodka through a fine mesh strainer twice to get rid of the wax. Cheesecloth would also work for straining the mixture and probably wouldn’t require the extra strain.
I loved the bright orange color of the vodka once it was done. Gives a nice touch to Halloween cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, you’ll want to use this vodka in these candy corn vodka cocktails.
